No part of society is immune to the problems associated with drug and alcohol abuse.

Most users will claim that their habits don't affect the general public or their job performance, but according to the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), 19.5 million Americans ages 12 and older were current illicit drug users.

  • Substance abuse affects the workplace - Of the 16.7 million illicit drug users ages 18 and older, 74.3% were employed either full or part time.
  • Substance abuse affects schools - 51% of high school seniors reported using an illicit drug at least once in their lives, 39% within the past year, and 23% within the past month.
  • Substance abuse affects the criminal justice system - Approximately 64% of male arrestees tested positive for at least one of the following drugs: cocaine, opiates, marijuana, methamphetamine, and phencyclidine (PCP). Add all of these combined with soaring health care costs and financial losses due to violence, theft, property damage, and lawsuits, and the price of substance abuse becomes substantial, costing Americans more than $200 billion annually.

Our testing devices provide a qualitative indication of drugs in urine; however, these tests cannot determine how much of the drug is present and only provide preliminary results. A more specific method must be used in order to obtain a quantitative confirmation. SAMHSA and other regulatory agencies have established gas chromatography / mass spectrometry (GC/MS) as the definitive confirmatory method.

As users of the POCT System, you will conduct the initial test at your facility and forward urine samples of suspect positive field tests to a certified SAMHSA Lab for additional testing. To further assure the defensibility of any and all drug test results, following the proper collection and testing procedures is imperative. We will work with you to develop a training and certification program and ensure the integrity of the specimen and test result. Our POCT System centers on immunoassay devices for the detection of the major drugs of abuse.

  • Cup - The tamper-proof KrollScreen Integrated Split Key Cup allows for single-step urine collection and testing.
  • Dip Card - A "dip and read" testing device where the user inserts the device " directly into the urine.
  • Oral Fluid - An easy and convenient, non-invasive method for the detection of multiple drugs.

These devices provide results in three to eight minutes and are easy to read with distinct color bands. Built-in controls monitor the testing process, and minimum space and non-scientific personnel may be used to administer the test. The foil-wrapped devices can be stored at room temperature or refrigerated.

Several configurations are available, including 5-drug, 7-drug, and 9-drug devices. To be effective, point of collection substance abuse testing must meet the same strict guidelines that make standard workplace drug testing programs legally defensible. The convenience of a testing product is useless if the results won't stand up to legal challenges. That's why our POCT System is a system, and not simply a product. With our POCT System, you get:

  • Point of collection testing devices approved by the FDA
  • Individually bar-coded chain of custody forms
  • Specimen collection kits
  • Confirmation of non-negative test results at our SAMHSA-certified laboratory
  • A Quality Assurance and Control Program
  • Centralized electronic data management with statistical reports
  • Unique electronic result reporting options
  • Customized training for all locations
  • Assistance with developing a policy for point of collection testing.

DNA Testing
DNA Fingerprinting can provide a 100% guarantee that the man being tested is not the biological father. The report will exclude this person from being the biological father and provide a list of genetic exceptions.

DNA profiling can provide a 99.99% probability that the man being tested cannot be excluded from being the biological father of the child. A Combined Paternity Index will be calculated and additional testing will be provided if necessary to achieve the minimum legally reportable Combined Paternity Index.

Rapid Drug Testing: Now offers DNA Paternity Testing through its affiliation with Independent Forensics and its paternity testing subsidiary Paternity Testing US. Please call 888-797-6800 for details. (TOP)

Lab Confirmations
Performed by a nationally recognized Laboratory that is certified by Health & Human Services under the National Laboratory Certification Program (NLCP). All of our confirmations are done by Gas Chromotography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS). Their state-of-the-art, high sensitivity GC/MS instruments are utilized to detect trace amounts of drugs in the sample. As little as 1 billionth of a gram can be detected. This is the final step in confirming a positive test result. Our pricing includes a custom printed 3 part chain of custody form with security seals and lab specific unique identification number, shipping supplies, next day shipping of the specimen to the laboratory, electronic reporting to an email address specified by you. Please call 888-797-6800 for details. (TOP)

Hair Testing
Our partner uses only a state-of-the-art method for detecting drugs in hair testing using enzyme-immunoassay (EIA). EIA measures the drug molecules permanently entrapped in the hair, which were incorporated following introduction into the body and subsequent absorption into the bloodstream. Our Laboratory uses cut-off levels that follow the current SAMHSA levels for each illicit drug. The cost of the test includes all collection supplies, chain of custody form with security seals and lab specific unique specimen number and next day shipping of the specimen to the laboratory. Trace Detection Services
These scientifically based services detect over twenty different drug and seven explosive substances in order to curtail the use, storage, and distribution of elicit contraband. Contracting with Rapid to perform trace detection services will include two on-site visits with follow-up summary reports and analysis of interim specimen collection performed by management at its discretion.
Trace detection technology makes use of minute amounts of vapors emitted and microscopic particles left behind when narcotics are packaged, handled, and used. Traces can be left on door handles, desks, merchandise, identification badges, and any other surface. The instruments used by Rapid Drug to detect contraband traces are the same as those used to secure some of the most prestigious and high-threat facilities and events in the world and used by customs and law enforcement agencies to intercept drugs at ports, boarder-crossing checkpoints, and postal inspection facilities.
The instrument’s sensitivity is the equivalent of detecting grams of a dissolved sugar packet in an Olympic-sized swimming pool.

Each assessment begins with randomly collecting microscopic particles from various locations in the workplace. Surfaces are either wiped down with a paper disk called a “sample trap” or vacuumed, trapping the particles in a collection device. These samples are analyzed using an itemizer that detects drug particles at a level that exceeds a pre-set boundary. When the pre-set is reached, an alarm will sound on the detector. The instrument will then report the drug detected and its concentration using a graphic format.

These printouts are compiled into a report that also includes a narrative and comparison tables. Reports from each assessment – the initial assessment, the follow-up, and any interim analyses – are compared in a final report at the conclusion of Rapid Drug’s services.

Once the report is available, management will gain knowledge of the severity of a drug problem within its workforce and can determine what action to take to alleviate the situation. Rapid Drug’s trace detection services, while discrete, also serve as a deterrent to drug use and as an initial step to implementing and maintaining a drug free workplace. Please call 888-797-6800 for details. (TOP)

MRO Services
We can arrange to have all of you specimens that are tested at the Lab to be reviewed by a qualified Medical Review Officer. All of our MRO’s are licensed physician’s (Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy) and are knowledgeable about and have clinical experience in controlled substances abuse disorders, including detailed knowledge of alternative medical explanations for laboratory confirmed drug test results. Please call 888-797-6800 for details. (TOP)
